It’s remarkable, really, that anyone wants to be prime minister. After facing a studio audience like the one on Question Time tonight, I’d be packing in politics the minute I staggered off stage, to look for a career in a gentler, more relaxing field. Crocodile taming, say, or North Korean bomb disposal.
This evening on BBC One, four political leaders – Jeremy Corbyn, Nicola Sturgeon, Jo Swinson and Boris Johnson – faced the Question Time audience, and three of them took an absolute toasting. The first victim was Mr Corbyn, who was told that the country should be “terrified” of him, that he’d overseen a culture of misogyny in the Labour party, and that his “nice old grandpa” image was a sham….
